If you are working with social data, Cambridge Digital Humanities is organising a data school training event online.
The Cambridge Social Data School (SDS)<https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/events/39473/>, taking place online between 23 June–1 July 2025, is now open for applications<https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/about/news/sds-june25/> from individuals working in the media, academia, civil society organisations, trade unions, the public sector and industry. The programme equips participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct data-driven investigations in the public interest.
All applications must be received by 23:59 UK time on 1 April 2025.

The Cambridge Social Data School (SDS)<https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/events/39473/>, taking place online between 23 June–1 July 2025, is now open for applications<https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/about/news/sds-june25/> from individuals working in the media, academia, civil society organisations, trade unions, the public sector and industry. The programme equips participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct data-driven investigations in the public interest.

All applications must be received by 23:59 UK time on 1 April 2025.

Focussing on machine learning and the investigation of environmental issues, this online version of the Social Data School is curated in partnership with journalists at the Pulitzer Center, who have been developing cutting edge technologies to carry out impactful investigations.

Over nine days of intensive virtual learning, participants will explore the lifecycle of a digital project and investigate the methods used to create, visualise, and analyse digital data. In collaboration with leading academic researchers and practitioners, the Data School team<https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/about/people/?category=1840&az=> has designed a teaching and learning experience which incorporates lectures, digital tools demonstrations, workshops, group work and more. Through this varied programme of activities, participants will not only develop their technical skills, but also engage with critical questions about data in society.

Previous participants have benefitted from the practical way digital methods are applied to real problems, the critical way in which they are employed, as well as by enriching interactions with teachers and peers during a week of activities.

Fees

Standard: £245 per person

Concession (limited places): £145 per person

There is a limited number of concessionary places for the unemployed, unfunded projects, and Global South residents that can demonstrate financial need. In addition, a small number of bursaries (waived fee) are available to those who are not able to afford this training and can demonstrate how attending the school will be beneficial for them.
