Dear users of RZG's virtualization infrastructure,
next Thursday, 08/09/2012 starting at 8:00 MEST, the
virtualization infrastructure at RZG will undergo some maintenance.
Amongst other things, our hypervisors will be upgraded to the newest OS
version. In the process, all VMs will be temporarily shut down and
rebooted afterwards.
If everything goes according to plan, this part of the maintenance
should be finished by 12:00 MEST.
Furthermore, currently most VMs themselves are running SuSE Linux
Enterprise Server 11 SP1. These need to be updated to SLES 11 SP2
as well some time in the near future.
You can check your version by having a look at
/etc/SuSE-release in your VM.
Now, this doesn't necessarily need to happen at the same time.
However, since it also requires a reboot, I would like to upgrade
most of the VMs themselves afterwards on the same day in order to
minimize downtime.
This would be sometime in the afternoon, with the VM being unavailable
for approx. 30 min during that time.
Especially if you are using third party packages, you should be
available during that time in case there are problems during the update
and to verify afterwards that everything is still working.
So if the date is not convenient for you for the VM upgrade, let me
know, then we can try to find an alternative date.
For an overview of the changes in SLES 11 SP2, see:

Kind Regards
